The Right to Bare Arms

April 20, 2007 / by MissE

Hmmm interesting..... over here in Oz we do not have that right. I couldnt even imagine owning a gun let alone baring it at someone lol. I could safely say that apart from a clay target gun i have never even seen one or touched one, heard one or shot one.

Do alot of people actually choose to use that right to bare arms. I have never in my life felt that i would need a gun to protect myself and it just goes to show the differences in societies. Not that its bad or anything just different. I mean Australia has weirdo's like the rest of them so we are no better its just i find it interesting that we dont have that right.

I am not sure i would exercise that right anyway. It feels wrong to me. I feel it would make me as bad as the crims to own one or use one. But i grew up in a country town that hardly ever had anything bad happen except accidents. We did not lock our doors at night left em wide open.

Maybe i am innocent and naive on my outlook who knows

The right to bare arms actually means that you have the right to own one (when going through proper channels) it however doesnt give you the right to carry them. There are some States that have passed "concealed weapons" laws that allows people to carry a gun on their person, but there are again, many channels to go through to obtain this as well. I personally dont agree with either. I don't now, or will I ever own a gun. If someone tries to break in, a baseball bat would work just fine [THUMBUP][SMILE]

The Second Amendment backs the ordinary citizen's right to bear arms.
It takes a little time to get used to everyone carrying guns in public, but it does deter crime and terrorism.

I also have never had a gun, held a gun, seen a gun...except on tv. I have a nice golf club that will do enough damage if someone was to break in. I also have a baton that is also taser...so that would definitely bring someone down...yes my sister tased me...LOL Someone had to be the guinea pig. hahahaha, but I also don't think that I could ever point a gun at someone and fire. That's just me. [SMILE]

personally i think the people that exercise that right are stupid. having a gun in the house is more 5 times more likely to kill you or a family member then an actual intruder. suicide and domestic violence rates increase in homes with guns as well. even if people are smarter then usual about it and lock their unloaded guns and lock their ammunition in seperate places then it kinda defeats the purpose of having one because an intruder is not going give you 5 minutes to unlock everything and put it together. basically, im completely agreeing with you. :-D

Where did you come up with your statistics? I'm positive you're incorrect. If you would look in the NRA monthly magazines, you would see a whole page of 30 - 40 instances each month where guns have saved the good guys toting them for self-defense at home or work. OR damaged the BAD guys who were trying something bad! So many of you women are afraid of guns because you are unfamiliar with them and were never trained how to shoot them properly & accurately. Equal opportunity means you can get trained well, too. I keep a couple of pistols loaded & ready for intruders. If kids were to come over, I would secure the guns in a "quick-open" lockbox, but ready to protect those kids, if necessary. The media scares an uneducated public with the word "semi-automatic" which is nothing more than saying you have to pull the trigger each time you want to shoot the gun. DUH! BTW, my teenage son got sucker-punched on our front porch doorstep by 3 punk kids he didn't even know. Those kids are very lucky I had all my guns locked in the closet until then because I had thought living 100 yards from the Tallahassee Police Dept HQ meant we were safe!

BTW, it's the 2nd Amendment to our US Constitution & it's the right to "bear" (carry) arms because it was the only way we could throw out the bloody Brits back in the day they denied & abused our colonial Englishmen's Rights. A gun is a great equalizer where no baseball bat could reach out & touch a standoffish OUTLAW with a gun. And you know the saying, I'm sure..."When guns are outlawed...."[COOL]

BTW, if any ladies want to "bare" their arms or any other body parts, feel free & send me a pic! [LOL][HEART]

Yes i completely agree with you also. Whether the stats are right or not i believe with a gun in your house there is more chance something unlikely/stupid will happen. [SMILE]

i was raised around guns , and in my family and outside we are taught how to handle a gun, how to check to see if its loaded , to always keep the safety on , and never aim at anything you dont want to kill , all guns have safety locks or are locked up in safes or gun cabinets, people i know that havent been around guns are far more likely to kill someone with it , give a gun to someone who has never been around one and watch how they hold it , then give a gun to someone that was raised around them , and watch how they hold it , then get back to me .

I like to stay bare in the Bear season 'round here so as to avoid any kinda shooting as those who enjoy their rights to bear or bare are rarely seen to be in my grill......I just love bear....rare bear.....it's only fair.......please dont make me pay a fare to bare so I can shoot a bear!!!!!!!!!!..................

Shooot...>SHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT.........hmmmm....Maybe there should be an investigation...I make no sense. David Byrne once shouted "Stop Making Sense"....and so I do.......

Ahhh B how did i know you would pick up on the grammer. I think i used the right version of the word. I know you have done a post on another word, cant remember which one, stating it drives you nuts when used wrongly. So as i was typing the heading i thought of you! [TONGUE] There i go baring my tongue at you hehehe

The right to bare arms wouldn't make crime more or less...not in my opinion. If a criminal wanted to do something that involved a gun...they'd get one either way.

I happen to collect firearms...shotguns, rifles, handguns. Couldn't tell you how many I have....but I can tell you were they are at all times.

Guns aren't anything but an inanimate object....have the right to bare them wouldn't only allow you the right to protect yourself if someone else was "baring" one at you.

But, that's how I feel.....hope you have a great day!

Since they have been "illegal" here I wonder how the stats are on "accidental" deaths.

I grew up around guns...thankfully I also grew up around responsible gun owners.

Let’s see, the right to bare arms gives us what we call a farmers tan lol… This “RIGHT” you’re referring to is just that: a right. The right to protect yourself from anyone including the gov if there intent is to harm you. As far as protection goes it would be the same as if you were attacked by someone and you put your arms up to block a punch. All about protection it is…. [HEART]

Personally I don't agree that it should be a right. If you own a gun it should be a priveledge. Something that requires more than a couple signatures on a piece of paper and a few days wait. I know several people who are gun enthusiasts, and honsetly I see no reason why anyone should be permitted to own as many as they do. Also to be able to have a concealed weapons permit requires nothing more than a test of accuracy, more paperwok and a small fee. That in it's self is a little more than frightning. There is no psyhce eval before you can carry a concealed weapon, you just have to be a good shot. The thought makes me shudder.

tell me about it!! Unfortunatly felons still seem to come by them fairly easily[THUMBDOWN]

  • dd1979 said 1 years ago
